Last year’s biggest anime hit, Attack on Titan, is already getting that live action movie treatment. I don’t know why we didn’t expect it to happen as soon as it is (opening next year). Maybe it’s the sheer magnitude of the task, but c’mon son, Japan got this! In fact, Sinji Higuchi, storyboarder and special effects director from the Gamera (a popular kaiju series) films, is on the job and he just put out this Attack on Titan Subaru Forester commercial. And it looks f*cking terrifying and awesome.
Son, I did the Asian live studio audience Oooooohhhhhhhh at the end of that.
YO YO NOT ONLY THAT, they just announced Haruma Miura will play main character, Eren Yeager. For fans of manga-inspired live action films, you already know Miura from Gokusen 3, Crows Zero II, and Kimi Ni Todoke. Yeah, he look a little more feminine but he got this. Honestly, I’m more interseted in who’s gonna play bad ass Mikasa! God, she so damn cool. Also, the script is being handled by series creator Hajime Isayama, Yuusuke Watanabe (Gantz, Gantz II: Perfect Answer, 20th Century Boys, Gatchaman) and film critic Tomohiro Machimaya. This is all to say, things are looking good so far. Real good, actually.
In terms of location, the film is set to start shooting early this summer on Hashima Island, also known as battleship island for its dilapidated buildings. Look at that sh*t:
