I don’t know what’s funnier, the music behind this or their giddy expressions of joy after getting slapped. But somehow, I feel… left out? #peerpressure

Here are two explanation provided via youtube, not sure who to believe.

(1) old tradition: in new year, we ring temple bells 108 times in Japan.

(2) recent trend: Many TV programs in new year are related to pro-wrestling matches (ex. K-1)…

(3) recent trend: it is honored to be slapped by this guy (old pro-wrestling hero). This slap means “Injection of fighting spirit”.
