I’m only about ten minutes in and Staple’s already talking about growing up Asian in a predominantly white neighborhood and then how his mom didn’t feel like he made it until he was in a chinese newspaper (even though he was in GQ and Time at that point). This shit is gold.
The event was hosted by Red Bull and its monthly Red Bulletin magazine and allowed those present (and now the viewer) to learn more about the origins of Staple Design. True to the name “confessional”, founder Jeff Ng aka jeffstaple gives a very frank talk about his humble origins growing up in Jersey as a visible minority and his tumultuous path through school that led him to his success in design.
