Violet Kim (of K-town Reality Show) Interview: All Violet Everything

How did you get cast on the show?

My best friends posted the Craigslist casting on my Facebook. I was studying Meisner at the time and it was always a dream of mine to be famous so I figured, why not?

I got really nervous at the audition and initially didn’t get picked. One night, after bartending I was hanging out with the producer Eddie Kim and I started to rant about the losers that always hit on me at the club and how I have a bucket to collect numbers in.

I think I made an impression because after that he asked me to send in a video audition and I was part of the cast. The video I made was another rant about the horrible boyfriend I had at the time and about his insecurities and my annoyance.

Common misconceptions about yourself that people may have as a result of watching the show?

There’s a bunch! Number one, I’m not a fighter. I’ve never fought before but that doesn’t mean I’ve never started trouble.  I just know not to put myself in a position to ruin my face.

Number two, I’m not always out partying. I have my son on the weekends and I spend my evenings with him because of the limited time we have with each other.

Number three, I did not sleep with my ex in season one. I’m a smart girl, I don’t give out the milk for free when the cow has not been purchased.

Are you hoping that more opportunities will come as a result of being on the show?

I do hope that more opportunities will come my way from this experience with K-Town, but at the same time, I know how this entertainment lifestyle goes, I always look at the glass half full and never expect anything. From this point on, it’s my duty to go out there and get what I want. I used to wait for things to be handed to be on a silver platter, but especially in this industry, it doesn’t work that way. My plan is to live a normal life after this; I don’t expect to be in front of camera to be famous.

Do you think anyone on the cast got on the show looking for love?

The crazy part about the rest of the cast is that they are all very independent and don’t care too much for finding love. I don’t think anyone came on the show looking for love, they have booking for that!

If you weren’t on the cast and you never met these people, who would be your favorite cast member?

My favorite would be Scarlet! She’s so freaking hilarious, especially with her commentary and reactions. I wouldn’t be interested in seeing anyone else, Scarlet and Jasmine’s personalities stand out the most and the most entertaining to watch.

What’s the general feedback you’ve received – both positive and negative.

The most positive feedback I’ve gotten was that it was entertaining to watch.

As for the negative feedback, I don’t read the comments so I wouldn’t know but people seem to worry about my son and the affect it will have on him. But I don’t let that worry me because the show is a fraction of who I am in a controlled situation and how I live my life. No one knows but my close friends and family.

Another K-town local celeb, Ben Baller (who also has a show on the same Youtube channel) has criticized the show. I think he was addressing the producers, but any thoughts?

First of all, KTOWN is about the subculture nightlife of LA and the people who live it. I know Ben and granted he claims KTown, he has never stepped foot in the nightlife of KTown and doesn’t know a single thing about KTown except the fact that maybe he has the tattoo on his arm. With that said, his opinion about the show is none of my business. I understand that it’s just his nature to be the way he is and I don’t really care. I remember when someone sent me the link informing me about his rant on his blog, my response was, “must I really read it? I’d rather not waste my time.” If you’ve know him long enough, you learn to let what he says go in one ear and out the other. Either way I don’t hate him, there are many other people who may feel the way he does but at they end of the day, none of it matters and I just wish for everyone to be happy and not be so sensitive.
